Release

I have just emerged from a very difficult time. As I have said in the past, I live in subsidized senior housing. I have to re-certify my eligibility for the subsidy every year, and I got paperwork slid under my door during the night, that I needed to fill out to submit for re-certification. I filled out the paperwork, was careful to sign everywhere a signature was required and turned in the paperwork to the office. Then, it was returned - twice. I visited the office but they insisted some paperwork was missing, and I told them I received no paperwork and had returned all I received with copies of relevant information and signatures.
I talked to the guy who handles the re-certification paperwork, who gave me a telephone number and name of a person to talk to about my paperwork. I called, but the person I needed to talk to was not in her office. I wrote an email, because the time for submitting paperwork had expired and if the paperwork was not submitted on time, one could lose their subsidy and become homeless.

Rents are outrageously high in the whole Seattle area, which affects millions of people, many of whom have no subsidy and live on the street, if you can all that living.

Many miserable, terrified, sleepless days later, my email was answered, the person had received my  paperwork and I was re-certified. At one point, for about three years, I did not have to re-certify, only having to fill in much simpler forms and return them to the office. With high rents everywhere,  people are desperate for any help, and applications to be on a waiting list are huge. When I applied for my subsidy, I had been on a waiting list for three years. I was working as a janitor for the place I was living, but the rent kept going up, and my wages were insufficient, so it was truly a miracle when an opening at a nearby senior housing complex opened up for me.

I learned what submitting to the will of God is like. Through the trembling, there was great love, but He insisted that I needed to pass through the test. Then, the email arrived, I was re-certified, and the burden vanished immediately.

This whole situation is mirrored in the lives of millions of people in Puget Sound, which includes Seattle and Tacoma and many other towns and cities.

The solution is a simple one; rents need to be capped before they reach the point that people can't earn enough to pay rent. I told the mayor this on a forum, but they voted down the idea of rent caps - they don't need to pay rent, and the people owning the housing and buildings and real estate do not live here; they live in other places like China. Changes to laws permitting this must be made. If the leaders of the government refuse, they will pay a price. Unfortunately, the poor already pay too much. Many people can't pay the rent but live in homeless camps and work for a living, only the living is too little.

I pray that you pray that this situation be turned around. If the predicted "Big One" hits, then millions of people and the buildings that house them will be buried under rubble, and the investment of foreign countries will disappear with the investment of our our country in the catastrophe. There are other possibilities, of course. Puget Sound has the Cascade mountain range running centrally from norther california to the subduction zone under our feet. The result of the worst scenario is truly frightening to imagine. We can pray that we outlive the threat, but there is a substantial possibility that Seattle could be flattened.

We are not subject to hurricanes as the southern United States is, but there are other equally devastating possibilities we have yet to face. People can continue to act as if they are immune, but each day teaches me to pray for the people that the ambulances and aid cars pick up here and transport to hospitals. Many do not rerurn, but die and are never seen again. I have lost many good friends that way and each time a fire truck pulls up in our compound, I am reminded of them again and I pray.

There is prayer, then there is contemplative prayer. The latter is a precious gift. God gives it for a reason. One reason is that He must grant a greater degree of intimacy in order obtain from us, what He needs, and the soul that embarks upon a quest for intimate prayer must be terribly brave and unselfish.

I had a time of many years of very intimate contemplative prayer. When that period ended, the current one began - a walk with Christ to the Cross, and to the passion-life. It can be a terrible spiritual dessication, interspersed with moments that are not so much illuminated with light, but lit on fire in a holocaust of love that is guaranteed to purify, and sanctify.

The solitary life is not devoid of human contact, but much of the contact can be on the spiritual plane. The kind that is on the earthly plane cannot hold a candle to the contemplative life on fire with God's love and the catastrophe of His touch.

Pray for your contemplatives, and prayer for your souls. If they are taken from our midst, we must do without the sweet fruits they win for us, except when God wishes to consume us entirely. If you chance upon a pierced soul whose wounds burn like the most awful fire, pause for a moment at least long enough to offer a drop of water for those souls who are in so much torment.

New and Old

I have two computers; the HP is the older one. The newer PC is a Dell. There are two monitors which can be connected by various arrangements: the Dell connects through Display port to the newer larger monitor. The HP pc connects to the new smaller monitor via HDMI connection

The old PC connects using Graphics Port (Display Port) and has a higher screen resolution. The resolution is so fine as to be nearly unreadable with my eyes being what they are anymore. I remedy that by using the "scaling" function in windows to enlarge the screen just enough to be able to more easily read the text.

The new pc has a slightly lesser screen resolution and does not need to be scaled as much.

I can use the old monitor with both PC's if I want to but since two pcs cannot be running at the same time to the same monitor. It is more useful, to me, to have both pc's and both monitors connected autonomously so they can both be on at the same time.

In addition, if I wanted, I could also connect both monitors to one pc in order to have a larger screen.

For the sake of simplicity, I do not use that mode. This means both machines need to be updated periodically, although Windows usually has had an opportunity to update my systems by itself. That can have bad consequences if bad updates make their way onto my systems. I usually seem to have managed to dodge bad updates for the most part. However, so many changes are being made anymore, that you do not know about simple changes that can have large effects on using the system because Microsoft does not often inform people in a timely manner what is going on until it is too late. Then people find they are unable to do certain things because the button to connect to the system aspect desired is not readily available.

It takes a lot of attention to keep up with it all. Often it creates problems when I would rather be doing some meaningful work instead of having to reinstall windows to fix problems.

One of these days I may get another PC that can use Display Port and HDMI both for display connections to machines of equal screen resolution in order to simplify things.

I have to say, I rely on God for guidance and inspiration, and would not have survived very long as a computer user if I were on my own. Some people might laugh about that, but He can provide the inspirations for the innovations that have changed the face of the earth. It is satisfying to succeed knowing God has given the requisite insights to succeed.

One might realize that the second world war might not have had the ending it did if God had not intervened in the plans of men; certainly, one can wonder what might have happened if the atomic bombs had not been used at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The mystery of men going to war in the sight of Almighty God is something to ponder deeply. When I say my Rosary each evening, I always ask for the end of wars and return of peace, and that no further nuclear weapon use takes place. Since He can allow or prevent things, it is reasonable to ask that He change things so no more nuclear weapons are made or used. It is asking a lot of Him, but He is a God of possibilities, and there is certainly nothing wrong with praying for the world we want and need. The pity is that men have confined themselves to certain outcomes when their alternatives are perfectly legitimate.

All that is necessary is obedience and the patience to wait on the Lord in peace and patience. Too often the war-mongers have insisted on things going their way for their own selfish reasons, to the detriment of the rest of the world.

Likewise, I pray that representatives come to the for who have the vision to see the benefits of legislators willing to talk to each other and work out their differences to the benefit of both sides.

What we need to avoid is the attitude of one side prevailing over another to the exclusion of considerations it is important to consider. The people who wall all or nothing do not  profit the people but only make things worse for their lack of vision.

In the world of computers, we could benefit from some uniformity without the dictatorial insistence of things being accomplished in only one way which does not benefit everyone. One of the blessings in life to be able to realize that there are other ways to do things, and it is possible that better things are possible where all possibilities are examined.

Inspiration

Break on through to the other side.

My new computer became unresponsive after an experiment, so I created a fresh recovery disk and inserted the thumb drive it was on into the computer. The result was that the computer got recovered, and is now working properly again. In order to solve a recent problem having to do with users and trying to startup without a password, things got tangles and the hiberfile apparently got scragged. The reset solved the difficulty, but not without the Lord giving me the insight, or, inspiration. It doesn't hurt to write down what you do step by step so if a similar problem arises, a similar solution might be applied.

Recently, I found I could create a new user and delete the old one and solve the problem of having to type a password. That was then, and this is now; apparently, Microsoft decided to disable the perfectly legitimate means of setting the PC so it would not insist on having a password typed. As it now stands, there is no way, and I don't mess with the registry, and the solution would have to lie there, if there one.

I am simply happy to have the PC functioning again. I copied the installation discs of my main programs to the hard drive for just such occasions as when it become necessary to completely scrubbing the hard drive to get rid of errors and problems. Having important data saved on an external hard drive to be recovered at a later date also helps to reduce the strain of wiping everything away and having to restore the data and hope nothing  important was  lost.

Certain matters were weaing heavily on me, and the work of restoring the computer helped me concentrate on something else. God is good +
